Bike/Barge Tour from Amsterdam (8 days)
Route: Amsterdam > Purmerend > Alkmaar > Zaanse Schans > Haarlem > Leiden > Den Haag > Amsterdam
Price: On a Comfort Barge, the price is $1405 for the High Season /person (double occupancy). This tour does not occur during the low season.

The boat will sail to Purmerend in the afternoon while you try out your bicycle and explore the polder country north of Amsterdam. You take in the famous cheese town of Alkmaar on your ride through the waterlands to the Zaanse Schans. With its windmills and typical green wooden houses, the Zaanse Schans gives a wonderful impression of life in the Zaan area during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. You arrive in Haarlem by boat.
You will explore the dunes and the sea, with the option of enjoying the seaside a little longer if the weather is nice. Once you get to Leiden you will have enough time to see the town or visit a museum. The next day you take public transport to visit The Hague, the seat of government of the Netherlands. There you will have ample time to visit the Mauritshuis with its famous painting The girl with the pearl earring by Vermeer, or admire the Panorama Mesdag with the largest panoramic painting in the world. From Leiden you sail for a while on the boat, leaving it to cycle further along the Amstel river. Amsterdam beckons you to explore its wonders, with a whole day at your disposal.
Visiting museums, shopping and an evening boat tour around the canals are all well worthwhile.
Extra information: The ship lock at Haarlem will probably be closed for renovation early in 2008. That means it won’t be possible to visit Haarlem. We will ensure there is a good alternative that detracts from the day-to-day program as little as possible.

Amsterdam, embarkation at 4 PM, sailing to Purmerend.
Sunday:
Purmerend - Alkmaar (30km)
Monday
Alkmaar - Zaanse Schans, sailing to Haarlem. (35 km).
Tuesday
Haarlem - Leiden (40 km).
Wednesday
Leiden round trip and visit Den Haag (The Hague) by public transport.
Thursday
Leiden - Amsterdam (40 km)
Friday
Amsterdam
Saturday
Amsterdam, debarkation before 10 AM
