  Bike/Barge Tour from Amsterdam (4 days)

Route: Amsterdam > Haarlem > Leiden > Uithoorn > Amsterdam

Price standard barge: $645/person (double occupancy), on Standard barge. $175/single supplement

Day-by-Day Itinerary:

On this 4-day bike & barge holiday you experience the highlights of the Dutch spring flowers, such as tulips, hyacinths and daffodils. Leaving from Amsterdam you go by barge to Spaarndam, the village of Hans Brinker. Here you disembark and make a short cycle trip to Haarlem. In the evening the tour leader will take you for a walk through the old center of this historical town. The next day the ship will drop you off in Lisserbroek, from here you cycle to flower park ‘Keukenhof’. Thousands of flowers in an enormous variety of color, shape and scent will welcome you. Cycling through the blooming bulb fields you make a spectacular trip to Leiden, birthplace of the world famous painter Rembrandt. The morning starts with a nice and interesting walk through this oldest university town of the Netherlands. By bike you bring a visit to the mill Broekdijkermolen and continue through the rural Green Heart of Holland. En route there’s a stop at a cheesefarm for an explanation and a nice taste of farmer’s cheese. Uithoorn or Kudelstaart will be your destination for today. The last day you rise early and clear out your cabin. You leave by bike to visit the world’s biggest flower auction in Aalsmeer. After this visit you cycle back to the barge that will take you back to the center of Amsterdam.

Day 1
Amsterdam - Haarlem, cycle trip ± 10 km. After the embarkation in Amsterdam in the afternoon, you’ll be sailing to Spaarnedam, the picturesque village of Hans Brinker. From here there is a short cycling trip to Haarlem. In the evening your tour leader takes you for a nice city walk through the old center.

Day 2
Haarlem - Leiden, cycle trip ± 15 km. Today you sail to Lisse here you disemabark and cycle to the famous flower garden ‘Keukenhof’ for a visit. Here you see about 6 million tulips, hyacinths, daffodils and other flowers. After your visit, the cycle tour crosses the blooming bulb fields and ends in Leiden.

Day 3
Leiden - Uithoorn, cycle trip ± 25 km.In the morning you will make a walkingtour through Leiden, the birthplace of Rembrandt. Later you will cycle through the fine Dutch landscapes in the so-called Green Heart of Holland to Uithoorn. During this cycle trip you will visit a traditional cheese farm and a miller will tell you about the history and working of his windmill.

Day 4
Uithoorn - Aalsmeer - Amsterdam 15 km.cycle trip ± 15 km You rise early, because you visit the world’s biggest flower auction in Aalsmeer. Before leaving the barge you have to clear your cabin. After the visit you get back on board and sail back to Amsterdam. End of your tour before noon.

Because of the rising gas prices, it might be possible that a gasoline charge will have to be paid in 2009. This charge will have to be paid on board, directly to the captain. At the moment the amount is not known yet, we will update this page when we know for sure!
